Mariana wears a blouse by Stella McCartney, shorts by Valentino and holds two bags by MCM
As fashion looks back to the super-luxe 1970s, so too does German handbag brand MCM (Mode Creation Munich). Celebrating 35 years of iconic design this summer, MCM was the luxury luggage brand of choice in an era of suddenly accessible international travel. Fans of its legendary tan monogram include Diana Ross, who was once photographed stepping off the Concorde in Paris with her buckled MCM suitcase, and a young Cindy Crawford, who fronted its campaigns.
The decade of MCM’s birth has been immortalised in faded shots of girls with perfect centre partings, dancing till dawn in silk jumpsuits and oversized tinted sunglasses, and the perfect accessory to that glamorous, wild look, then and now, is an MCM bag slung nonchalantly across one arm. For those of us who were too young to have been there the first time around, its tan backpack and mini tote are a perfect reminder of why the brand is still a favourite today. §
