“These are remarkable poems, as well as a suite of images by someone who abandoned poetry for art. Always powerful, restless and transformative, Broodthaers changed every art form he entered, creating unique artist’s books, prints, films, installations, sculptures and writings: he brings poetry exceptionally close to art. In fact, they infuse one another here.” —Barbara Epler

Marcel Broodthaers, 1924-1976, was a Belgian poet, filmmaker and artist. Beginning his career as a poet he inaugurated his shift to visual art by turning 50 unsold copies of his book of poems Pense-Bête into his first art object by embedding them in plaster.
