Selected by Gerhard Steidl
Sigmar Polke remains one of the best known of the German “Capitalist Realists”. Gerhard Steidl says, “I printed for Polke many, many years ago and I have always loved his work. This is painting with photography.” Working across mediums, Polke’s diverse oeuvre is harder to categorise than those of his contemporaries, such as Gerhard Richter. The images collected in this volume display his photographic experimentation, with solarisation and chemicals, offering an otherworldly, and almost transcendental series of images.
